Today, we will talk about the 3D scanning of the movie 'The Nuns':
the process of scanning the actor's character and special makeup hands.
The movie The Nuns is a work that is important for its unique gothic horror style and intense character expression,
so it required 3D digital implementation of the actor and his hands.
At the request of the movie production team, we 3D scanned the actor's entire body and special makeup hands,
and provided optimized data through retopology work.
Since the quality of the high-resolution scan data directly affects the CG team's final results,
maintaining the highest precision and detail was key.
배우의 전신을 정확한 형태와 텍스처를 유지하면서도
CG 작업에 최적화된 상태로 제공하기 위해 전신스캔 포토 부스를 사용해서 진행했습니다.
150대 이상의 고해상도 DSLR 카메라를 동시 촬영하여 정확한 인체 구조와 자연스러운 텍스처를 획득하고
짧은 시간 내 촬영하여 배우의 움직임에 의한 오차를 최소화했습니다.
In order to maintain the actor's full body shape and texture while providing it in a state optimized for CG work,
we used a full body scan photo booth.
More than 150 high-resolution DSLR cameras were used to simultaneously capture
the exact human body structure and natural texture, and we shot in a short period of time to minimize errors caused by the actor's movements.
얼굴, 의상 주름, 신체 구조까지 디테일한 형태를 유지한 3D 모델 생성하고
CG팀이 애니메이션을 적용할 수 있도록 신체 비율과 관절 구조를 정확하게 반영하였습니다.
We created a 3D model that maintained detailed shapes including the face,
clothing wrinkles, and body structure, and accurately reflected the body proportions
and joint structure so that the CG team could apply animation.

균일한 조명 환경에서 촬영하여 작업 시 편리하게 사용할 수 있도록 최적화된 데이터를 제공해드렸습니다.

We have provided optimized data for your convenience by shooting in a uniform lighting environment.
In such a uniform environment, the sense of incongruity is minimized during CG synthesis.

특수분장 된 손은 디테일이 중요한 요소였기 때문에, 손만 고해상도 3D 스캔을 진행했습니다.
특수분장의 미세한 질감까지 유지하고 상처, 핏줄, 손톱의 질감 등 분장 디테일을 정밀하게 스캔,
CG팀이 자연스럽게 합성할 수 있도록 고품질 텍스처 데이터를 제공해드렸습니다.
Since the special makeup hand was an important element in terms of detail,
we performed a high-resolution 3D scan of only the hand.
We maintained the fine texture of the special makeup and
precisely scanned the makeup details such as the texture of the wounds, blood vessels, and nails,
and provided high-quality texture data so that the CG team could synthesize it naturally.
3D 스캔 데이터는 원본 그대로 사용할 수 없기 때문에, 최적화 작업이 필수적입니다.
리토폴로지 작업을 거쳐 가벼우면서도 디테일이 유지되는 최적의 3D 모델을 제작하였습니다.

Since 3D scan data cannot be used as is, optimization work is essential.
We created an optimal 3D model that is lightweight but maintains details through retopology work.
✔ Scan data cleaning and noise removal
✔ Incomplete parts are supplemented to make a smooth model
✔ Polygon optimization (retopology)
✔ High-density mesh is maintained for detailed parts of the hand
✔ UV map cleaning to optimize the texture so that it does not break
